NTPC's Khargone super thermal power project is being hampered by local villagers that are not allowing the vital preliminary investigations, which includes the topo survey and geotechnical studies. The villagers have demanded that a suitable land compensation package be announced before the company can commence any work on site.
- Repeated negotiations, on a variety of levels, have failed to move the adamant local populace.
- Consequently, the land boundary is no where close to being finalized, as a result of which, NTPC's aim to wrap up land acquisition rapidly looks too ambitious.
- Matters have come to such a head that the power company has, now, been forced to seek support from the state government and the district administration to resolve the stalemate. The Khargone project will be set up using two units of 660 MW, each, in the Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh. The site for the plant is located near the Dalchi and Selda Balbad villages.
