Bridge collapse derails Pipavav CCPP

The 700 MW Pipavav CCPP has been severely delayed after a bridge enroute to the project site, in Gujarat, collapsed. The consignment containing the gas turbine (GT) of Unit-1 of the project was damaged during the incident, due to which stringent remedial measures have been effected. However, Unit-1 is now not expected to go on steam before July 2011.

  • In some good news, however, the STG deck casting for Unit-1 has been completed, while generator building is at an advanced stage of completion. Apart from this, the HP drum for the boiler is expected to reach the site presently. BHEL, the EPC contractors, also expects to dispatch the alloy steel modules of the Heat Recovery Steam Generator soon.
  • Further, the project developer expects to complete the control room and facilities building by December 2010, paving the way for all subsequent electrical works. Also, in a bid to expedite the remaining activities, some work has also been contracted out to other local contractors.
