Lack of manpower, storage space delays Pragati CCPP

The 1500 MW Pragati CCPP is being hampered by acute shortages of storage and fabrication space at the plant, sorely needed to manage the ever growing stockpile of material on site. Adding to the woes of BHEL, the EPC contractor for the project, is the seeming lack of adequate manpower on site. As a result, civil works are moving at a snail's pace.

  • BHEL had to take extraordinary measures to ensure that GT 1 could be synchronized last month-- the unit is now likely to achieve full load shortly.
  • However, incessant rains had resulted in water logging in various areas, thereby hampering out-door activities. Notwithstanding, GT 2 is expected to be synchronized by the end of this year in open cycle mode.
  • As regards combined cycle operations at Block 1, erection of HRSG 1 and 2 is almost complete, while the diverter damper of GT 2 is also at site. The TG deck for STG 1 has been cast and all efforts are on to commission the steam generator by March 2011. Further, it is planned to commission GT-3 and GT-4, constituting Block 2, by March 2011 and June 2011, respectively. Also, the combined cycle operation  of the block is planned by August 2011.
