Sector-wise KG-D6 gas allocation

The website carries here a sector-wise breakup of natural gas allocations from the Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries' KG-D6 block. So far, the Union Government has allocated a total of 93.474 MMSCMD of gas from this block, consisting of 64.309 MMSCMD of firm and 30.165 MMSCMD of fall-back allocations. The break-up of gas allocations across various sectors in the country is as follows:
  • Power: Total: 44.677 MMSCMD; firm: 32.677 MMSCMD; fallback: 12 MMSCMD.
  • Captive power: Fallback: 10 MMSCMD.
  • Fertilizer: Firm: 15.708 MMSCMD.8CGD: Total: 3.387 MMSCMD; firm: 1.222 MMSCMD; fallback: 2.165 MMSCMD.
  • Steel: Firm: 4.19 MMSCMD.
  • Refineries: Total: 11 MMSCMD; firm: 5 MMSCMD; fallback: 6 MMSCMD.
  • Petrochemicals: Firm: 1.918 MMSCMD.
  • LPG: Firm: 2.594 MMSCMD.
It may be mentioned that the block is currently producing only 60 MMSCMD, a figure not likely to change in the foreseeable future. This puts the petroleum ministry in a bit of a spot.
