NTPC unwilling to concede fault at Talaipalli

Subsequent to the Ministry of Coal`s (MoC) show-cause notice, state owned power major, NTPC, has asked the ministry to take back its charges of underperformance with respect to development activities at the Talaipalli coal block. It has claimed that in view of the substantial progress made towards commencing production, any punitive measures, like de-allocation, would be out of place.8The company, in a recent letter, has informed the ministry that milestones like exploration, preparation of geological report, EIA/EMP study and socio economic survey have been achieved.

  • Further, NTPC-SCCL Global Ventures has been appointed as the the Mine Developer-cum-Operator (MDO) recently and the process of land acquisition and forestry clearance is underway.
  • The company expected to commence power generation from the end-use Lara power project last month. 8In view of the above, NTPC has asked the MoC to be lenient, so as to not jeopardize the company's efforts to bridge the burgeoning power supply-demand gap in the country.
