National Gas Grid: An update on GAIL's pipeline projects

GAIL is setting up trunk pipelines to connect new sources of natural gas to customers throughout the country. The following is an update on the pipeline projects being implemented by the gas major: 

  • Dadri-Bawana-Nangal Pipeline: The pipeline is scheduled to be completed by April, 2012. The 594 km pipeline will source 20 MMSCMD of gas from RIL's offshore fields in KG basin and supply to customers in the cities of Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, the north, north east and north west region of Delhi, Sonepat, Panipat, Karnal, Kurushetra, Yamunanagar and Kaithal in Haryana and Sangrur, Bhatinda and Ludhiana in Punjab.
  • Chhainsa-Gurgaon-Jhajjar-Hissar Pipeline: The project is scheduled to be completed by November, 2011. The 310 km pipeline will source 20 MMSCMD of gas from RIL's offshore fields in KG basin and supply to the cities of Faridabad, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Rohtak and Hissar in Haryana and Alwar in Rajasthan.
  • 8Dabhol-Bangalore Pipeline: The project is expected to come on stream by February, 2013. The 747 km pipeline will source gas from RGPPL's LNG terminal and supply to customers in the cities of Ratnagiri and Kolhapur in Maharashtra, and Belgaum, Dharwad, Haveri, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Tumkur and Bangalore in Karnataka.
  • Kochi-Kanjirkkod-Mangalore Pipeline: The project is likely to be completed by March, 2013. The 16-MMSCMD pipeline will be laid for a distance of 854 km. The pipeline will source gas from PLL's upcoming LNG terminal at Kochi and supply to the cities of Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Mallapuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasargod in Kerala,  Coimbatore, Erode, Salem and Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu and Dakshin Kannada, Chamarajnagar, Mandya and Bangalore in Karnataka.
  • Jagdishpur-Haldia Pipeline: The completion schedule for the project is yet to be finalised. The 876 km pipeline will off take RLNG imported by PLL and supply the same to customers in the cities of Puruliya, Bankura and Medinipur in West Bengal, Hazaribagh and Bokaro in Jharkhand, Bhabhua, Rohtas, Aurangabad and Gaya in Bihar and Rae Bareli, Sultanpur, Jaunpur, Varanasi and Chandauli in Uttar Pradesh.
