Coal production from captive coal mines in the country has increased on a year-over-year basis, from the beginning of the 11th Plan period, in 2007. During the fiscal year of 2009-10, about 35.673 MT of coal was mined from captive blocks, a rise from 21.245 MT (2007-08) and 30.002 MT (2008-09), previously. - So far, from April 2007 till the month of September 2010, various allocatees have mined a cumulative 105.238 MT of coal from captive coal blocks. As expected, the private sector contribution has been greater as compared to the government-owned allocattees.
