Fulmination of NTPC`s 1,980 MW North Karanpura super thermal power project (STPP), at Jharkhand, seems nowhere in sight. Progress at the project continues to be stalled due to an impasse created over the issue of the project site bearing coal, as alleged by Coal India Limited (CIL).
- A tussle, thus, is still on between the Ministry of Power (MoP) and the Ministry of Coal (MoC) over relocating the STPP. The utility has now requested the power ministry to expeditiously settle the issue.
- NTPC, on the brighter side, has claimed that most statutory clearances like feasibility report (FR), R&R, land acquisition have been done with. The company has incurred about Rs 150 crore on the project so far.
- The North Karanpura STPP, in the Chatra district of the state, consists of three 660 MW units and is being financed by a loan from JICA.
