Mundra UMPP in Gujarat: Boiler light-up for Unit-I due this month

In line with the plans to achieve ahead-of-schedule commissioning of the 4,000 MW Mundra UMPP, the Tata Power-subsidiary, Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL), is likely to conclude the boiler light-up for the first unit by end of this month, against its schedule of February 2011.
Thereafter, CGPL will achieve steam blow-off for the unit within the next month, two months before the schedule of April 2011.
Meanwhile, the hydro test and turbine generator (TG) box-up for the unit were wrapped up in March and September 2010, respectively.
The hydro-test for the Unit-II was also achieved in September last year, while the TG erection for the Unit-II and III has already started.
Further, erection of boilers for all the five units are presently underway at the project site, with around 98.5% erection at Unit-I complete.
The developer has also completed the erection of main frame structures for Units IV and V.
Unit-I of the UMPP is slated to achieve commercial operation declaration (COD) in June this year, followed by the Unit-II in December, against the schedule of September 2011 and March 2012, respectively.
Likewise, the third, fourth and fifth units will be commissioned in February, June and September 2012, as compared to their corresponding schedule of July, November 2012 and March 2013.
Tata Power bagged the Mundra project in 2007 through the international competitive bidding route. The project entails an investment of over Rs 17,000 crore, which is being funded via a debt and equity ratio of 75:25.
