Delays at power projects-II: NTPC takes steps to remedy delays

Highlighting some of of its practices adopted and initiatives taken to improve its project implementation performance further, NTPC has claimed to have taken the following steps to ensure all its projects come up on time:
 A Project Management Centre (PMC) has been set up at with state of art technology for real time monitoring of the projects, access to which has been given to MOSPI,  Ministry of Power (MoP) and the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
  • NTPC has initiated the adoption of ITIs to develop skilled manpower in the vicinity of the projects, wherein, work at 26 ITIs is under progress. 
  • Proper monitoring of works awarded to Civil agencies is being done. Works have been off-loaded where repeated failures on the part of agencies were noted.
  • Joint Ventures have been established with Bharat Forge( for Forgings), BHEL (for EPC and manufacturing of equipments for power projects), TELK (for Transformers) for augmenting the manufacturing capacities.
  • As a standby arrangement, the company has resorted to hiring of construction equipments.
  • Pooled procurement of Balance of Plants and bulk tendering for main plant (SG & TG) is being done, so as to benefit from bulk concession and reduce the cost and time involved.
