GERC approves Torrent's move to supply power to Dahej SEZ, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat

 Following relevant petitions from the two companies, the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has approved the long term supply of power from Torrent Power Limited (TPL) and Torrent Energy Limited (TEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of TPL, to cater to the demands of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat and the Dahej SEZ license areas, where Torrent and its subsidiary function as distribution licensees. Notably, the companies carried out a demand and supply forecast for the aforementioned areas.
 Accordingly, the Commission has allowed TPL to supply 665 MW from its under-construction projects to the Ahmedabdad, Gandhinagar and Surat license areas at a regulated tariff, wherein it will procure 277 MW from UNOSUGEN and 384 MW from DGEN power projects.
In addition, TEL will supply 388 MW to the Dahej SEZ from the DGEN project.
To note, the DGEN interstate power project is being set up by the power company as a greenfield mega-power plant, comprising of 3 blocks of 400 MW, each, expected to commence generation from FY 2014-15.
