India adds over 2700 MW of grid-connected renewable power capacity, including from wind, biomass, small hydro and solar resources

The country added over 2700 MW of grid-connected renewable power capacity, including power from wind, biomass, small hydro and solar resources, during 2101, an official release said today.
India added over 2000 MW of wind generating capacity and 400 MW biomass / bagasse cogeneration capacity during the year. The cumulative biomass power/bagasse cogeneration based power capacity so far has reached 2,550 MW, the release noted.
Cumulatively, 700 small hydropower projects aggregating to 2,850 MW have been set up in various parts of the country. Of these, over 300 MW capacity was added during the year 2010. Over 10 MW capacity grid connected solar power generation systems were set up during the year.
The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has issued a notification listing the terms and conditions for recognition and issuance of certificate for renewable energy generation. This seeks to address the mismatch between availability of renewable sources and the requirement of the entities to meet their renewable purchase obligation.
