MoEF okays construction of NTPC's Nabinagar, Solapur TPPs

The Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) has accorded environmental clearance to NTPC's joint venture project with Bihar State Electricity Board-- the 3x660 MW supercritical technology based Nabinagar TPP-- in the Aurangabad district of Bihar.
  • The land requirement for the proposed plant is about 1,500 acres.
  • Again, the water requirement for this plant will be 6,000 cum/hour, which will be met from Indrapuri Barrage on Sone river through pipeline over a distance of 3 km.
  • Besides, a total of 11.25 MTPA of imported coal will be required to operate the proposed plant, which will be sourced from North Karanpura Coalfields of Central Coalfields Limited.
  •  Total cost of the project is pegged at Rs 12,964.58 crore.
  •  Alongside, the ministry has cleared NTPC`s 2x660 MW supercritical technology based Solapur thermal power plant (TPP) in Maharashtra.
  • Importantly, the power major has obtained water allocation to use 4,000 cum water per hour for the plant from the Ujani reservoir through pipeline over a distance of 110 km.
  • Further, NTPC has also obtained linkage for its coal requirement of 7.5 MTPA from MCL's mines, while the balance coal will be imported from Indonesia.
  • It has also obtained the no-objection certificate from the Chief Wildlife Warden for the construction of the project, which is located at a distance of about 5 kms from the Madhok Bird Sanctuary.
  • The cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 10,508.95 crore.
