Country’s largest power producer NTPC should utilise all the sources of energy for generating electricity to reduce its dependence on one particular raw material, the Minister of State for Power, KC Venugopal said today.
“NTPC should utilise a strategic mix of options to ensure fuel security for its fleet of power stations,” Mr Venugopal said on his visit to the company’s office here.
NTPC, which currently generates over 33,000 MW power plans to become a 75,000 MW company by 2017 and envisages an installed capacity of 1,28,000 MW by 2032, the company said in a statement.
The company said it will be using a well-diversified fuel mix, comprising of 56 per cent coal, 16 per cent gas, 11 per cent nuclear energy, 9 per cent renewable energy and 8 per cent hydro-power based capacity.
Construction work is in progress for 39 units totalling 15,740 MW capacity at 15 project locations. NTPC is also pursuing other new projects beyond 12th Plan (2012—17) and the same are under various stages of planning, clearances and approvals.
