The website carries here, for reference purposes, the status of manufacturing facilities being developed by five joint ventures set up to establish an indigenous base for supercritical power equipment. These joint ventures are a corollary of the power ministry's stipulations calling for installation of domestic production capacity by bidders for the lucrative bulk tenders for supercritical power plants being developed by NTPC and Damodar Valley Corporation.
- Larsen & Toubro (L&T)-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI): This is the only JV out of the five companies that has inaugurated its facilities and has in fact started production at its plant located at Hazira, Sura. It plans to manufacture boilers and turbine generators with an annual capacity of 4000 MW each.
- Alstom-Bharat Forge: The Alstom-Bharat Forge partnership is expected to start operations at its Gujarat-based facility in Mundra SEZ by June 2013. The capacity of the facility is expected to comprise of turbine generators worth 5,000 MW.
- Toshiba-JSW:This JV is expected to complete all construction work at its plant near Chennai by August 2011. The plant carries an annual manufacturing capacity of 3000 MW. The companies entered into a tieup in September 2008, with Toshiba holding 75 per cent stake in the JV.
- Gammon- Ansaldo: Probable date of completion of facilities at Tiruchy in Tamil Nadu is December 2012 for the first phase of 2000 MW and December 2014 for an additional 2000 MW.
- Thermax- Babcock & Wilcox: The two companies joined hands in March last year. The joint venture looks to set up a manufacturing facility near Pune, Maharashtra with an annual capacity of 3,000 MW. As of now, negotiations for procurement of machinery for manufacturing facilities are in final stages. Completion of facilities is planned by end of 2011
