Land acquisition pushes back commissioning of Sasan UMPP

Troubles faced by Reliance Power Limited (RPL) in acquiring the land required for its massive Sasan UMPP have led to a slight deferment of schedule for the massive project. As of now, the first unit is expected to come up in January 2013, which although substantially behind the schedule stipulated in the revised PPA, is still ahead of the original deadline. Further, boiler foundation work for units 2 and 3 has already been completed.
  • However, fearing further delays at the critical project, the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has decided to hold a meeting with RPL, as well as depute a team to the project site to assess the actual performance on the ground.
  • The 3960 MW Sasan UMPP in Madhya Pradesh, is one of nine ultra mega power projects to be set up through tariff-based competitive bidding. Reliance Power`s subsidiary--Sasan Power Limited (SPL)-- achieved financial closure for this project in April 2009.
