Short-term transactions of electricity for July'10: Power traders continue to charge higher prices

As has been the trend over the last two months, the power traders in the country traded power at price bands higher than those of other mechanisms in July 2010. The weighted average price of electricity transacted through trading licensees during the month was Rs 4.98/kWh, whereas the same for Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) and Power Exchange India Limited (PXIL) were Rs 3.36/kWh and Rs 3.23/kWh, respectively.

• The average  price of electricity transacted through unscheduled interchange (UI) was Rs 4.11/ kWh in the North-East-West (NEW) Grid and Rs 3.95/kWh in the Southern Region (SR) Grid.
• The minimum and maximum prices of electricity available with power traders were Rs 2.54/kWh and Rs 6.27/kWh, respectively. 
• In comparison, the minimum prices of electricity transacted through IEX and PXIL were Rs 2/kWh and Rs 1.90/kWh, respectively, while the maximum prices were Rs 7.10/kWh for IEX, and Rs 7/kWh for PXIL. 
• The minimum and maximum prices for UI transactions were Rs 0.00/kWh and Rs 17.46/kWh, respectively, across both Grids.
