PGCIL to lease Infrastructure to telecom companies

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL) has announced that its Board of Directors at its meeting approved to kick start the process for the Base Case - Tower Lease Model and to proceed ahead to utilize feasible tower space for mounting of telecom antennas and associated accessories by the interested parties on a commercial basis through open tender process and take up associated action.
The Board has agreed with the recommendations of KPMG that the Company may pursue the base case - Tower Lease Model to leverage the immediate opportunity and subsequently upgrade to the improved base case, based on industry response, technical and regulatory approvals.KPMG was appointed the consultant to evaluate the Telecom Infrastructure business plan of the Company, including due diligence for tower business opportunity.
The Board also approved 'Transmission System for Phase-I Generation Projects in Orissa - Part-A' at an estimated cost of Rs20.74bn, with commissioning schedule of 30 months.
