NTPC, AP Discoms ink power purchase agreement for supply of 400 MW of power from Kudgi Super Thermal Power Project Stage-I

NTPC and Andhra Pradesh Distribution Companies (AP Discoms) – APEPDCL, APSPDCL, APNPDCL and APCPDCL on Wednesday signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for supply of 400 MW of power from Kudgi Super Thermal Power Project Stage-I of NTPC Ltd.
The agreement was signed at the Central Power Distribution Company Ltd office by Mr M.K.V. Rama Rao Executive Director (Commercial), NTPC and Chief General Managers of APEPDCL, APSPDCL, APNPDCL and AP CPDCL in the presence of Mr M.T. Krishna Babu, Chairman and Managing Director, APCPDCL, Mr Ambarish Nath Dave, Regional Executive Director (South) NTPC.
Kudgi Super Thermal Power Project Stage-I, being set up by NTPC in Bijapur district in Karnataka, will have an installed capacity of 2,400 MW (3 x 800).Andhra Pradesh would get around 400 MW from Kudgi Super Thermal Power Project Stage-I according to tariff to be decided by the Central Electricity Authority.The Kudgi Super Thermal Power project will have a total ultimate capacity of 4,000 MW (5 x 800 MW).
A tri-partite agreement was signed by NTPC, Government of Andhra Pradesh and Distribution Companies APEPDCL and APNPDCL for implementation of the Centre's scheme for provision of supply of electricity in a 5-km area around Central Power Plants of NTPC Ramagundam Super Thermal Power Station in Karimnager District and NTPC Simhadri Super Thermal Power Station in Visakhapatnam District in Andhra Pradesh.
The agreement was signed at Central Power Distribution Company Limited office by Ms Chaya Lakshman, Officer on Special Duty, Energy Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh and Mr. M.K.V.Rama Rao Executive Director (Commercial), NTPC and Chief General Managers of APEPDCL and APNPDCL.
As per the agreement a list of villages and habitations to be covered under the scheme within a radius of 5 km of the powerhouse of would be finalised after clearly identifying the boundaries of the area to provide supply under the Scheme.After assessment of the power required for the Scheme, the Union Ministry of Power would direct the power utility for necessary additional power allocation from the plant. Necessary distribution infrastructure will also be installed to cater to residents in this area.
