The government aims to add upto 18,000 megawatts generation capacity in the current fiscal year to end-March 2011, Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said on Thursday.
As of Oct. 31, India had an installed generation capacity of 167.28 Gigawatts (GWs), of which about two-thirds came from thermal power. Coal-based generation accounts for about 80 percent of thermal power generation.
