NBPPL considers two American firms for technology tie-ups

NTPC-BHEL Power Projects Private Limited (NBPPL), the manufacturing joint venture formed by NTPC and BHEL, is eyeing two US-based firms for a partnership to manufacture BoP equipment. A taskforce formed to shortlist suitable parties for collaboration has proposed Dearborn Mid-West Conveyor company (DMW) as the partner for coal handling plants and United Conveyor Corporation (UCC) for ash handling plants.
  • After due deliberations amongst the various stakeholders, including employees from the JV and Central Electricity Authority (CEA), the Ministry of Power (MoP) has advised that a complete agenda and draft agreement may be sent to DMW, which is expected to finalize the modalities of the technology transfer after due diligence.
  • With respect to ash handling plants, the MoP has advised that follow-ups required consequent to a previous meeting with UCC be concluded at the earliest. The ministry has also proposed that representatives from NBPPL may visit the US to expedite matters, so that the company can begin supplying the much needed equipment.
