First unit of NTPC's Jhajjar thermal plant synchronised

THE FIRST 500 MW unit of prestigious 1500 MW Indira Gandhi Super thermal plant at Jhajjar has been synchronized with oil firing on October 10. This project is the largest power generating project being set up in Haryana. The project was meant to supply power for Commonwealth Games but has been delayed.  It is a joint venture between NTPC, Haryana and Delhi. For execution of this project, a joint venture company Aravali Power Company was formed on December 21 2006.
The total estimated project cost is Rs 8293 crore, Haryana and Delhi’s share in equity contribution is 25 percent each and balance 50 percent has been contributed by NTPC.The super thermal power project which has now been synchronised on oil will be commissioned after coal  firing starts and final commissioning will take few more weeks.
The remaining two units are expected to go on stream in next three to four months. Coal linkage of 6.94 Million Tonnes Per Annum allocated from Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. and 15 percent imported coal will be mixed to match boiler design parameters.Haryana has been allocated 50 percent of the power from the project with 25 percent share in equity.
