NTPC net profit dips for the 4th quater of 2009-10

Despite higher electricity sales, NTPC Ltd reported a five per cent dip in net profit for the fourth quarter of 2009-10 at Rs 2,018 crore. This was mainly on account of a sharp drop in other income during the latest reported quarter, with interest earnings taking a knock. Net sales increased eight per cent to Rs 12,353 crore during the latest quarter on higher electricity generation. The company has reported a 49 per cent drop in its `other operating income' at Rs 378 crore during the quarter, according to filings made by the utility to the stock exchanges.
For the full financial year ended March 31, NTPC posted a net profit of Rs 8,728 crore, up six per cent. Net sales increased to Rs 46,323 crore in the financial year 2009-10 from Rs 41,924 crore the previous fiscal. NTPC generated 219 billion kilowatt-hours (KWh or units) of electricity last fiscal year, up six per cent as compared to a three per cent growth in 2008-09. The country's largest generation utility has an installed capacity of 31,704 MW.
