Awarded UMPPs: Latest commissioning schedule

The details of the commissioning schedule of the four 4000 MW Ultra Mega Power Projects (UMPP) that have already been awarded by Power Finance Corporation, the nodal agency for UMPPs in the country. Notably, these projects are Tata Power`s Mundra UMPP, in Gujarat, and Reliance Power`s Sasan UMPP, in Madhya Pradesh, Krishnapatnam UMPP, in Andhra Pradhesh, and Tilaiya UMPP, in Jharkhand.
As per latest estimates, the five units of the Mundra UMPP are likely to be operational by September 2011, March 2012, July 2012, November 2012 and March 2013, respectively. The Sasan UMPP is also expected to start commercial power production by March 2013. The first unit of the project is expected to be commissioned by December 2011, with subsequent units likely to follow suit in March 2012, June 2012, September 2012, December 2012 and March 2013. On the other hand, Krishnapatnam UMPP will only approach completion in the latter half of 2015, as per the latest data. A unit wise break up reveals that the commissioning of the five units of the project is expected to in September 2013, April 2014, October 2014, April 2015 and October 2015, in that order. Tilaiya UMPP is likely to be the last to be commissioned out of the 4 projects detailed above. The first unit of the project is likely to be commissioned in May 2015, with the entire project starting production of commercial power only by June 2017.
