Adani Power's 1980 MW & Gautami Power's 1278 MW expansion projects bag MoEF clearance

The Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) has accorded environmental clearance to the 3x660 MW Phase-II expansion of the 1320 MW under-construction thermal power plant (TPP) being set-up by Adani Power Maharashtra Private Limited at Tiroda, in the Gondia district of Maharashtra. The land requirement for the entire project is estimated to be 402 hectares, while the water requirement is pegged at 90 mcm/annum, which will be obtained from the Wainganga river, flowing at a distance of 5 km from the site. Pertinently, the Nagzira wildlife sanctuary is located at a distance of 11 km from the project. Total cost of the project would be Rs 9,696 crore.
Alongside, the ministry has cleared the 3x426 MW Stage-II expansion of the existing 469 MW gas-based TPP belonging to Gautami Power (Samalkot) Private Limited, in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. No additional land will be acquired for the expansion, while the required gas supplies will be met from Reliance Industries Limited's KG basin. Further, the company expects to meet the water requirement of 20 cusecs for the expansion plant from the existing allocation of 61.10 MLD from the Godavari river. Pertinently, there are no national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, bio-sphere, tiger or elephant reserves, heritage sites, etc., within 10 km of the plant. Total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 3,850 crore.
