Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has received enthusiastic response from the companies engaged in the business of power in the country, in its quest for selection of developers for the Rs 9,000 crore mega transmission project. A total of 33 responses were received by PFC, from various power companies, against the request-for-qualification (RfQ), floated by PFC Consulting Limited, a subsidiary of PFC, in February this year, to shortlist the potential developers. The developer for this project, dubbed `System Strengthening Common for WR & NR`, would be selected through tariff-based bidding.

The project would aid evacuation of power from the upcoming independent power projects in the states of Orissa, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh to the northern and western regions. Notably, the Empowered Committee on Transmission had, recently, shortlisted 14 projects for allotting to private players through the competitive bidding route. Of these, three projects-- the Talcher Augmentation Transmission System (Talcher-II), North Karanpura Transmission System and East-North Interconnection System-- have, so far, been taken up and selection of a Transmission Service Provider (TSP) is underway.
