21441 MW of new generation now likely to be commissioned

The Load Generation Balance Report for the ongoing fiscal contains an updated list of the generating schemes proposed to be commissioned during the year 2010-11. As per the revised data available in the compilation, projects worth 21,441 MW capacity are likely to be commissioned during this year. This capacity comprises of 18,755 MW worth of thermal power projects (TPPs), 1,466 MW worth of hydroelectric projects (HEPs), 1220 MW of nuclear power schemes and 1082 MW of capacity that was to be commissioned in 2009-10 but has been delayed till this fiscal. 
 The 1500 MW Pragati CCGT-III in Delhi, 1200 MW JSW Ratnagiri TPP in Maharashtra, 1015 MW Udupi TPP in Karnataka, 1000 MW Mejia thermal power station (TPS) and 1000 MW Durgapur TPS, both in West Bengal, are some of the more notable thermal projects expected to be commissioned this year. The prominent HEPs include Allain Duhangan, Budhil, Malana-II, Chamera-III Unit-1, Sewa-II, Uri-II, Koteshawar, Priyadarshini Jurala, Nagarjuna Sagar, Pulichintala, Kutiadi Additional Extension, Chujachen, Teesta Low Dam-III and Myntdu hydro power projects. Alongside, the Kaiga unit-4 and Kudankulam Unit-1 in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, respectively, are the two nuclear installations expected to come online in 2010-11.
