According to a recent report, released by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), the currently installed capacity of power projects in the region stands at 50,475.03 MW, with thermal-based projects contributing 36,556.79 MW and hydro power projects 7,447.5 MW. In addition, the contribution of the projects based on renewable energy sources stands at 4,630.74 MW, while nuclear energy adds 1,840 MW.
A state wise analysis reveals that Maharashtra has the highest installed capacity of 21,378.93 MW, followed by Gujarat (14,158.09 MW) and Madhya Pradesh (8,324.04 MW). The lowest installed capacity, of 30.62 MW, is found in the union territory of Daman & Diu. Moreover, Maharashtra leads in all categories of power installations, since it has the highest thermal-based capacity, of 14,918.98 MW, and the largest hydel generation pool, with cumulative installations of 3,331.84 MW. The state's installed nuclear-based capacity also stands at 690.14 MW, while its installed renewable energy-based projects are worth 2,437.97 MW.
