2102.50 MW of coal based power units identified for phased retirement by yr. 2012

A list of coal based power units identified for phased retirement, in the last 2 years of the XIth Plan. Owing to the fact that these units have low design efficiencies and are operating at very low plant load factor levels, a total of 35 units, of 2102.50 MW capacity, are proposed to be retired in the year 2010-11 and 2011-12.
Notably, the state of West Bengal has a total of 10 units, worth 460 MW, that fall under this category, the largest number. Jharkhand follows, with the anticipated shutting down of six units of the Patratu TPS affecting 400 MW of capacity. Furthermore, Unit-3 of the Harduaganj TPS and units 1 and 2 of Obra TPS in Uttar Pradesh will also be retired in the year 2010-11. In the year 2011-12, the 5x62.50 MW Satpura TPS, in Madhya Pradesh, is likely to be retired, along with the Barauni TPS.
