Demand for power in Maharashtra crossed 16,615 MW, which forced state distribution utility Mahavitaran to increase load shedding time than announced one hour. In a press release issued it has said, previous high was 15,000 MW on 3 May last year, however due to sustained heat wave like conditions over last few days demand is hovering around 16,000 MW but it created a record of short when it reached 16,615 MW on Tuesday.
However as against this increase in demand, availability of power continue to be between 10,000 MW to 11,000 MW forcing the distribution utility to enforce additional hours of power cut. The press release also says, due to inadequate water availability in Irai dam, 2340 MW Chandrapur thermal power station of Mahgenco is running only at the capacity of 180 MW.
