Simhadri TPP's Unit-3 to attain full load by end of month

The third 500 MW unit of NTPC`s Simhadri TPP is expected to be operational at full load by end of March 2011, with coal feeding almost complete and the turbine generator put on the barring gear.
  • The unit is, however, still one month behind schedule, with completion of the bunker terminal and cooling duct possessing the potential to play spoilsport even now.
  • The Simhadri TPP, located in the Visakhapatanam district of Andhra Pradesh, has an installed generation capacity of 1,000 MW commissioned in 2002, while the Phase-II expansion to the project involves two 500 MW units. State-run transmission major, Power Grid Corporation of India limited (PGCIL), is constructing the 400 KVD/C line from Simhadri to Vizag to evacuate power from the project.
