NBPPL still awaits promised power plant-orders

NTPC BHEL Power Projects Private Limited (NBPPL) is likely to receive the EPC order for the 500 MW Unchachar thermal power station (TPS) only by the end of March 2011. In response to the techno-commercial offer submitted by NBPPL, a joint venture company formed by NTPC and BHEL, NTPC was expected to award out the contract by February. However, the power major took longer than expected to open and evaluate the bid.
  • On a similar note, NBPPL still also awaits the EPC contract for NEEPCO's 100 MW power plant. While BHEL, the main contractor for the plant, has decided to source the project through the JV, NEEPCO is still to approve the entire proposal.
  • However, on the brighter side, the major civil work at the manufacturing plant at Mannavaram is in progress, while on-site activities are being monitored on daily basis.
  • Additionally, techno-commercial discussions with DMW, USA, for sourcing of coal handling plant technology have been completed. Talks are also on with UCC Inc., USA, for Ash Handling Plants, and are expected to be concluded by month-end.
