The power sector recorded a significant improvement during March 2010, as targets for, both, capacity addition and power generation, were surpassed. A total of 1,950 MW of new capacity was added, against the targeted total of 1,881 MW. In tandem, the power plants also registered an excess generation of 1,475.42 million units (MU), against the target of 68,624.43 MU, during the same period. The present scenario is also far better, when contrasted with the corresponding figures for March 2009.
Around 70,099.42 MU were actually generated in the country during March 2010, implying an achievement of 102.14%. The corresponding proportion for the same month of the previous year was recorded as 97.28%.For reference purposes, the website carries here, capacity addition and generation data for the month of March 2010, issued by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA). The data, disaggregated with respect to all four major sources-- thermal, hydro, nuclear and renewable-- is contrasted against the corresponding targets and achievement in power generation and capacity addition for the same period of the previous year.
