All India operating performance of generating stations in the Yr 2009-10

Electric Energy Generation Target for the year 2009-10       : 789.5 BU
Actual Electric Energy Generation during the year 2009-10  : 771.2 BU
Growth in generation during 2009-10                                       :  6.6%

The highlights of operation performance of generating
stations in the country during the year 2009-10 are as under.

  • The improved gas availability at the gas power plants due to allocation of gas from KG D-6 basin resulted in higher growth rate of 32.56 %. However, loss of generation of 2.8 BU in the year has been reported due to gas shortage mainly in the first half of the year as also at plants not served by HBJ Pipeline.

  • Coal based generation recorded a growth rate of 5.2 % and Plants operated at an average load factor 77.8%

  • The short supplies of domestic coal and delay in materialization of import of coal (by MMTC for NTPC) resulted in loss of generation of 14.47 BU in the country during the period April 09 - March 10

  • The average PLF of thermal power projects (Coal/Lignite) achieved during the year was 77.5 %, as compared to 77.2 % in the previous year.

  • 53 numbers of stations with an installed capacity of 51552.5 MW achieved PLF greater than national average.

  • 21 numbers of thermal power stations with an aggregate installed capacity of 25237.5 MW operated above 90% PLF.

  • Operational availability of thermal stations has marginally increased to 85.45% compared to 85.04% during the previous year.

  • The Hydroelectric energy generation recorded a negative growth rate of 5.7 % due to poor monsoon. The loss of generation was 8.8 BU.

National average PLF
The average PLF achieved during the year was 77.5 %, as compared to 77.2 % in the previous year. 53 numbers of Plants with an aggregate installed capacity of 515525 MW achieved PLF greater than national average. The trend in the improvement of national average PLF of the thermal stations since 1997-98 is presented in the graph.

OperatingAvailability of thermal stations
During the year 2009-10, operational availability of thermal stations has marginally increased to 85.45% compared to 85.04 % during the previous year.

Maximum PLF
During the year 2009-10, one thermal power station achieved PLF greater than 100% viz. Dahanu TPS (500 MW) of M/s Reliance Energy Limited recorded a PLF of 102.33%.
