Tariff-based bidding for power procurement: 6 states adopt Case-I bidding route

Out of the total 28 states in the country, so far, six have opted to procure power through the so called Case-I competitive bidding route. These states, namely Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Bihar and Karnataka, had floated tenders for the purchase of around 11,300 MW of electricity on long-term basis. Some of them have already issued letter of intent (LoI) to L1 bidders for supply of the contracted quantum of electricity. However, the Punjab government's tender for procurement of around 1,800 MW of power had to be scrapped due to scanty response. Following are the state-wise details of the competitive tariff-based bidding undertaken thus far in the country:
 Rajasthan 
 Contracted capacity: 1,000 MW ± 20%
 --Order placed with Adani Power Rajasthan for supply of 1,200 MW at a tariff of Rs 3.25 per kWh.
 Maharashtra
 Contracted capacity: 2,000 MW [ (-20%) (+30%)]



 --Order placed with EMCO Energy (GMR) for supply of 200 MW at Rs 2.88 per kWh.
 --Order placed with Indiabulls (Amravati) for supply of 450 MW at Rs 3.26 per kWh.

 --Order placed with Adani Power Maharashtra for supply of 1,200 MW at Rs 3.28 per kWh.
 --Order placed with Indiabulls (Nasik) for supply of 150 MW at Rs 3.44 per kWh.
 Gujarat



 Contracted capacity: 3,000 MW ± 20%

 --Order placed with KSK Energy (Wardha Power) for supply of 1,010 MW at Rs 2.34 per kWh.



 --Order placed with Shapoorji Pallonji for supply of 800 MW at Rs 2.80 per kWh.
 --Order placed with Essar Power for supply of 1,000 MW at Rs 2.80 per kWh.
 Bihar



 Contracted capacity: 1,500 MW ± 20%

 --Order placed withly on Essar Power for supply of 450 MW at Rs 3.057 per kWh.



 Karnataka



 Contracted capacity: 2,000 MW ± 20%

 --Order placed with PTC-Monnet joint venture (JV) for supply of 150 MW at Rs 3.76 per kWh.



 --Order placed with PTC-Tehrmal Powertech JV for supply of 430 MW at Rs 3.77 per kWh.
 --Order placed with PTC-Meenakshi Power JV for supply of 200 MW at Rs 3.80 per kWh.
 --Order placed with JSW Energy (Karnataka) for supply of 600 MW at Rs 3.81 per kWh.
 --Order placed with PTC-Nagarjujna Construction Company JV for supply of 400 MW at Rs 3.89 per kWh.
 --Order placed with PTC-East Coast Energy JV for supply of 200 MW at Rs 3.89 per kWh.
