Commonwealth Games 2010: Demand supply scenario

Keeping in view the forthcoming Commonwealth Games, the Ministry of Power has anticipated a peak demand of 4,450 MW of power for the first fortnight of October, 2010. Added to that, the Delhi government has requested the power ministry to keep an emergency provision of about 300 MW from the central pool for the games.
Out of this aggregate requirement, 740 MW of power would be needed through open access. Various discoms such as BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL), BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) and North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL) have confirmed short-term accesses of 450 MW of power which has been sent to Northern Regional Load Dispatch Centre (NRLDC) for the period 3-14 October, 2010.

Power Grid Corporation India Limited (PGCIL) has, however, pointed out that additional power would be required right from the end of September till the end of October as most teams and officials would arrive earlier. The distribution companies have, however, not booked the corridors for supply of power during the period.
