Supply of power equipment by BHEL: Other decisions over review meeting

The meeting of the Group of Officers on the issue of BHEL-made equipment supplies for capacity addition that took place in the Cabinet Secretariat has also led to the following other decisions:

  •  The Department of Heavy Industries (DHI) and the Ministry of Power (MoP) should continue to hold monthly review meetings so as to ensure expeditious implementation of the action plan regarding commissioning of power projects.
  • The power ministry would be responsible for sending the progress on the implementation of the action plan to the Cabinet Secretariat in a prescribed format on a monthly basis. In such monthly reports, against each project, only activities getting delayed or showing deviation from the agreed timelines would be highlighted along with the reasons for delay, corrective action initiated and the revised timelines finalized.
  •  DHI was directed to expedite the issuance of a comprehensive order specifying the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the expert technical group (ETG) to make it more broad-based.
  •  MoP would examine the reasons for likely delay in commissioning of the power projects, Koderma Unit-I and Durgapur Unit-I, and take suitable action against those responsible for the delay.
  •  BHEL and the power project authorities would meet the challenges and take suitable corrective action for compressing the slippages in implementation of projects so as to achieve the capacity addition plan in the current year as originally targeted for 2010-11 along with spillover of 2009-10.
  •  BHEL would also be responsible for ensuring timely supply of all items, including CC pumps, turbine modules and generators, for all the projects being implemented by it.
  •  MoP and DHI will pursue strategic planning to achieve long-term goals of capacity addition in power sector in line with the economic development of the country.
