NTPC's coal mining project gets forest dept's clearance

NTPC's Pakri-Barwadih coal mining project, for which the Union Coal Ministry has allotted coal blocks, has got forest clearance from the union Ministry of Forest and Environment for its stage two work. "With this the stage is cleared for starting Conveyor Corridor, Railway Corridor and starting coal mining production by 2012 as per the revised target fixed by the union government," Rao, the general manager of NTPC's coal mining project, told newsmen here on Wednesday. The company is now seeking cooperation from villagers of Pakri Barwadih for development of the area.

NTPC has got clearance for 1026 hectare of land which would help fix up the schedule for their project, proposed to supply 15 million tones of coal to thermal power station to help reach its target of producing 75,000 MW of power by 2017 as against 32,260 MW now, Rao said.

With the receipt of stage two forest clearance, land acquisition of 1026 hectares will start on a war-footing in cooperation with the Land Acquisition Department of the Jharkhand govt. Besides the payment of Rs 10 lakh per acre, he said NTPC would also give Rs 15,000 per annum to those families who would lose less than one acre of land and Rs 30,000 per annum to those families who would lose more than one acre of land.
