The report carries here, key details of the Madhya Pradesh power sector, as of June 30, 2010. The information is compiled in terms of the installed capacity, allocation of power from central sector generating stations, and the actual power supply position, along with the capacity addition made during the IXth and the Xth Plan periods.
According to the statistics available here, out of a total of 4,755.52 MW of installed capacity, from the state and private sector, 1,703.66 MW comes from the thermal power stations. Furthermore, 2,807.5 MW is contributed by the hydro power projects in the state. With no nuclear power capacity installations, the remaining 244.36 MW is renewable energy-based capacity.
With regard to power allocation from various central generating stations, the state has a total share of 2,368-2,389 MW, which includes 1,931 MW of power from the central generating stations (CGS) in the western region. About 150-171 MW is from the unallocated power of CGS, while 74 MW is from Kahalgaon Stage-II. 200 MW and 13 MW comes from specific allocation to Bundelkhand and SEZ-MPAKVNL respectively.
In terms of supply gaps, in the month of June 2010, the peak shortage observed was of 1,247 MW, i.e. 19.8%, while the energy shortage was at 23.2% or 774 MU. For the period April-June, 2010, the peak shortage was 19.9% and energy shortage was 22.7%. Pertinently, the state has also missed the fresh capacity addition targets for both the IXth and the Xth plans, by adding only 497.5 MW, against the target of 1,003 MW of power, during the IXth Plan, and adding a mere 95 MW of the targeted 1,537 MW, in the Xth Plan.
