Ahmedabad-based Torrent Power on Friday awarded turnkey EPC contracts to Siemens AG, Germany and Siemens Limited, India for setting up Unosugen at Sugen and DGEN power projects at Dahej.Unosugen is a 382.5 Mw gas based combined cycle power project undertaken by the company as part of the capacity expansion at its existing Sugen mega power plant, while DGEN at Dahej is a greenfield gas-based power project with a capacity of 1,200 Mw.While Unosugen is being established under the aegis of Torrent Power Limited, DGEN is being set up by Torrent Energy Limited, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Torrent Power Limited. As a result, around 1600 Mw power generation capacity would be added in the Torrent fold within next three years.
"India is pursuing an ambitious programme to expand its power generating capacities. The country’s current installed capacity totalling 160 gigawatts (GW) is to be increased to 950 GW in 2030. The country has a major backlog demand for power supply. These two new gas-fired plants will make an important contribution towards ecofriendly power supply in the country," added Wolfgang Dehen, CEO, Siemens Energy.
