CEA releases monthly energy generation report for June 2010

The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has brought out the energy generation report for the month of June 2010, compiled by its Operation Performance Monitoring Division on the basis of daily generation data received from all the power stations across the country. The report provides an insight on the energy generation scenario in the country and reveals some key facts.

During this month, 65,403.45 Gigawatt hours (GWh) of power was generated in the country, against a target of  65,803.41 GWh, implying a 99.39% achievement to target. The same figure for the corresponding period of the previous fiscal stood at 103.74%. Pertinently, leaving aside the hydropower sector, all the other three, namely the thermal and nuclear sectors and energy imports from Bhutan, failed to meet their corresponding goals during the third month of the current fiscal. A total of 9,759.59 GWh of hydroelectric energy was produced in the country during the month, 103.51% of the target of 9,428.80 GWh.

However, only 53,259.23 GWh of thermal power was generated during the month, against the target of 53,883.50 GWh, implying a 98.84% achievement, while actual nuclear power generation was restricted to 1,788.36 GWh, or 99.91% of the targeted 1,790 GWh. Similarly, against the month`s target of 701.11 GWh, a total of 596.27 GWh, or 85.05% of the target, was actually imported from the eastern neighboring kingdom of Bhutan.
