Ever since the Supreme Court delivered its verdict on 7 May in the RIL-RNRL gas case, analysts were guessing that ADAG may just not go ahead with the proposed 8000 mw power plant at Dadri. But now it is official. Anil Ambani has informed the power ministry that the Dadri project is on the backburner. After fighting a bitter legal battle with Reliance Industries over gas supply to the proposed 8000 MW power plant at Dadri, ADAG has now put this project on the backburner.
In a letter to the power ministry, ADAG has said it will consider implementing the Dadri project only after the proceedings at the Supreme Court pertaining to land acquisition for the Dadri plant are disposed off.
However ADAG still wants minimum 28 mmscmd of gas for 17 years for plants being expanded or being set up at Samalkot, Shahapur and Baruch. ADAG says it has received all statutory approvals and clearances for these sites and is infact in an advanced stages of engineering, plant layouts etc and in the final stage of choosing EPC contractors.
What is the Power Ministry's view?
Even though ADAG has sought gas from RIL's KG D6 and RILs other blocks, the Power Ministry says all these plants will come up only in the 12th year plan for which no gas has been allocated. It has asked the oil ministry to clarify on gas availability.
