The first 500 MW unit of Indira Gandhi super thermal power project (STPP), which was proposed to, partly, meet the power needs in Delhi, during the impending Commonwealth Games 2010, is unlikely to benefit the capital city on time, as Delhi Transco Limited (DTL), the Government of Delhi-run transmission utility, has, so far, failed to develop the infrastructure necessary for the evacuation of power from the project. The transmission major, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), has already erected the associated 400 kV Jhajjar-Mundka transmission line, while, DTL is yet to complete the work for the substation at Mundka.
In view of the exigency attached with the commissioning of the power system, the Ministry of Power (MoP) has shot letters to the Cabinet Secretariat and the Chief Secretary, Government of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, intimating the conceived delay in completion of the evacuation system. The project has been developed by Aravali Power Company Private Limited, a joint venture between NTPC, Indraprasth Power Generation Corporation Private Limited (IPGCPL) and Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL).
