Power generation clocks 6.6% growth during April-May 2010

A cumulative growth of 6.64% in energy generation was recorded over the first two months of the financial year 2010-11. As compared to an actual generation of 1,26,678 million units (MU) registered during the same period of the previous fiscal, around 1,35,085 MU was generated during April-May 2010. This was also higher than the target, of 1,33,619 MU, as per the electrical energy generation data released by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).

According to CEA, thermal, nuclear and hydro power generation exhibited growth rates of 5.25%, 18.33% and 14.70%, respectively, against the corresponding figures of 2009-10. On the other hand, imports from Bhutan exhibited a negative growth of 18.17%, against the 514 MU seen the same period last year. During April-May 2010, against an import target of 681 MU for the period, 420 MU was actually wheeled from the eastern-neighboring kingdom. Pertinently, hydel and nuclear power generating segments also exceeded their respective targets for the month.
