Power Finance Corporation will be extending the closing date for request for qualification (RFQ, or technical bidding) for the proposed UMPP (ultra mega power project) in Chhattisgarh by two months. The RFQ for the project is already delayed by two months because environment clearance is yet to come by for the project's coal mine located in the controversial Hasdeo block in Chhattisgarh.
According to a power ministry official, Power Finance Corporation, the nodal agency for the UMPP, will announce the extension as the ministry of environment and forest has not resolved the issue of environment clearance with the ministry of power.PFC had invited bids for the UMPP in March this year and had set May 3 as the deadline. This date was later extended to July 5.
