BHEL ups transformer manufacturing capacity

State-run equipment maker BHEL, today, said it has enhanced its transformer manufacturing capacity to 15,000 megavolt ampere (MVA) per annum, via the installation of a new unit at its existing facility at Jhansi, in Uttar Pradesh. BHEL has added a new core and tank shop to its Jhansi unit, which previously had a capacity of 8,500 MVA. Vilasrao Deshmukh, Minister for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, today, dedicated this unit to the nation.
 BHEL is preparing itself to meet future challenges in the power sector by adopting new technologies and building up capacities to cater to the requirements of power stations that are expected to come up during the 12th Five-year Plan period and beyond. The company has already enhanced its power plant equipment manufacturing capacity to 15,000 MW per annum, and will further augment it to 20,000 MW by 2012. In addition, to cater to the anticipated surge in demand for transformers, of which nearly 1,20,000 MVA is expected to be demanded per year, BHEL has taken several steps, including setting up a new UHV transformer block at its Bhopal plant, in addition to the new facility at Jhansi. Subsequent to all its endeavors, the total installed transformer manufacturing capacity of BHEL will go up to a phenomenal 45,000 MVA per annum.
