Commissioning delays results in 8301 MU power generation shortfall in 2009-10

Delay in the commissioning or commercial operation declaration (COD) of thermal power projects (TPP) contributed to a cumulative shortfall of 8,301 million units (MU) in targeted power generation during the 2009-10 fiscal. According to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), a total of 19 TPPs have failed to meet their respective commissioning or COD deadlines in the fiscal, thereby resulting in the actual generation of 4,996 MU from these plants, against the target of 13,297 MU
Out of these TPPs, worth 5,093 MW, which were scheduled to go on steam during the last fiscal, six projects are still to be commissioned, while 15 thermal units are due to attain CoD. The four thermal units that have achieved COD in the 2009-10 fiscal include Raj West Power Limited's 810 MW Jalipa Kapurdi lignite-based pithead power plant in Rajasthan, Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited's 75 MW Unit 4 of the Kutch lignite project in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited's 500 MW Unit 7 of N Tata Rao TPP in Andhra Pradesh and CESC Limited's 250 MW unit 3 of Budge Budge TPP in West Bengal.
