The contentious 'Go/No Go' forest clearance policies of the MoEF have now managed to catch the attention of Pranab Mukherjee as well with the Finance Minister suggesting the removal of the moratorium imposed by the CEPI on critically polluted areas as well as taking expeditious decisions on the controversial areas in order to boost developer and investor confidence.
- Due to CEPI and the cloudy 'Go/No Go' policies, it has been observed that growth in coal production for CIL has dropped from 5% to less than 1% in the last two years. Additionally, with the developers adopting a wait and watch policy with regard to coal blocks/linkages, the capacity addition programmes as well as power projects have been adversely affected. Mukherjee also requested MoEf to expedite its clearance process for the pending projects, which due to delays are most likely facing losses. The same was highlighted for hydro projects as well where it was indicated that developers and investors were losing confidence, which must be restored if the 'momentum gained in acceleration of capacity addition' was to maintained
