The Ministry of Power (MoP), it has emerged has revised the distribution of unallocated power to Central Generating Stations (CGSs) for the northern region in consideration of the higher demand in the months of summer. However, in spite of this re-allocation, the states have demanded for more power to meet the shortfalls.
- While the overall allocation to Bihar was increased by 80 MW, that of Haryana for the time slot of 1800-2300 hours was increased from 125 MW to 299 MW. At the same time, Punjab got an increase of 250 MW and 243 MW for the slots of 2300-0600 hours and 1800-2300 respectively. In a subsequent re-revision of the 1800-2300 hour slot however, the latter two states lost out on 42 MW each, as the allocation dropped from 299 MW to 257 MW.
- On the other hand, Rajasthan witnessed a decline from 215 MW to 125 MW for the slot of 2300-600 hours. Also, Uttarakhand lost out on 48 MW of power allocated to it between 1800-2300 hours.
- It was also noted that there was a shortage of power in most states, which had subsequently asked for additional allocation of power to CGSs from time to time. But the cumulative quantity demanded by states was much higher than the unallocated power available, and the request, it was concluded, was not feasible on most occasions and therefore, could not be met.
