Even as the Anil Ambani-led Reliance Power Limited (RPL) has made several attempts to convince various quarters of the government on gas allocation for its 2400 MW natural gas based power project at Samalkot, its requests have failed to bear fruit so far.
8The company has knocked on the PMO's door once again for a quick solution to the matter. If the company's claims are to be believed, timely fuel supplies can facilitate financial closure of the project and can enable the developer to participate in competitive bidding to tie-up power sale arrangement. RPL even claims to commission the project by November 2011, assuming fuel supplies are effected on time.
8Out of the total gas requirement of 9.6 mmscmd, as sought by the developer, around 6.4 MMSCMD of gas would be needed in 2011, with another 3.2 MMSCMD required in January 2012.
8This project is being installed at an estimated investment of Rs 10,000 crore to add to the 11th Plan capacity addition programme and RPL has already achieved various intermediary milestones, like the grant of environmental clearance for 1,200 MW capacity.
8It also already has PGCIL's approval to connect the plant to the Vemagiri-II pooling station, via a 2x400 kV quad DC line. It has further obtained the water allocation for the entire plant
